From today (1 August 2024), doorknocking is banned under the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program

From today (1 August 2024), doorknocking is banned under the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program. This follows the ‘cold-call’ telemarketing ban that took effect on 1 May 2024

Under the doorknocking and telemarketing bans, scheme participants must obtain express prior consent from consumers before telephoning or visiting them to market energy efficient upgrades, products, and services under the VEU program. If you receive express prior consent, this must be evidence by a written record and submitted in Geo, detailing:

  • the identity of the consumer

  • scheme participant(s) the consumer has consented to being contacted by

  • the prescribed activity(ies) the consumer has consented to obtaining information about

  • when the consent expires

  • where applicable, the date on which consent is withdrawn by the consumer.

Please refer to the program update for further information on the bans, including links to guidance materials to help industry understand their obligations and comply with the bans.
