Who is eligible to claim certificates for a commercial lighting upgrade and what information does Green Energy Trading require?
If the installation is in Victoria or New South Wales and the expected energy saving on your installation is above 1000MWh you may be eligible to benefit from Green Energy Trading’s commercial lighting certificate creation services.
Before you begin the upgrade it will be necessary for you contact us to discuss your project and provide details, including:
- The expected commencement date
- The number of lamps you’re removing and installing, and;
- The new products you’re going to use
After assessing the viability of Green Energy Trading’s involvement with the project a proposal outlining our services and assigning exclusive certificate creation rights to Green Energy Trading will be provided. The collaboration can only take place once a signed copy of the agreement has been returned to Green Energy Trading.

How can Green Energy Trading contribute to the commercial lighting project?
Completing a commercial lighting certificate claim is a great way to help reduce the cost of a lighting upgrade and make your project tender as cost competitive as possible.
Green Energy Trading will be with you onsite during the installation providing advice and gathering evidence, including:
- Taking photos of the installation,
- Drawing the lighting layout diagram and taking lux level measurements, and;
- Completing the certificate assignment form
By providing onsite assistance we will ensure all necessary evidence is gathered and 100% regulation compliant, reducing any unnecessary payment delays.
What payment do you provide and are there any fees to use your service?
The payment we provide is determined by the number of certificates the installation will generate (which is calculated by how much energy is saved) and the price of each certificate at the time they’re sold.
The price per individual certificate is determined by the number of certificates in the market available for purchase by the liable parties: the more certificates available, the lower the price; the more demand for certificates, the higher the certificate price.
Once the certificates are sold, Green Energy Trading will pay out the full value of the wholesale certificate price minus the service fees. Green Energy Trading will finalise the payment within five (5) business days following sale of the certificates.

When will the certificates be created and sold?
The deadline for the creation of commercial lighting certificates is June 30 of the year following the year of installation. For instance:
- If the installation takes place on December 30, 2015, you have until June 30, 2016 (6 months in total) to claim your certificates.
- If the installation takes place on January 1, 2016, you have until June 30, 2017 (18 months in total) to claim your certificates).
However, as Green Energy Trading will be responsible for the gathering of upgrade evidence the certificates will be created and sold as soon as possible following the lighting upgrade.
Are there any limitations on what products can be used to be eligible to claim certificates?
To be eligible to claim certificates for your commercial lighting upgrade you must install products that have been approved by the scheme administrator (the Essential Services Commission in Victoria, IPART in New South Wales).
